Hair Salon Logo

Logo design is one of the more enjoyable tasks that will be facing you when you chose to start up your own salon. Nor do you have to be designing the logo yourself to be able to experience that enjoyment. Simply describing the things you'd like to see in your logo to your designer will let you experience the same feeling.

The logo is a very important aspect of your business. Not only does it represent your company, and give your clients a single representation that can act as a hook upon which they hang their experience of your company, but also is an opportunity to convey the very essence of your company.

A logo is also central to your marketing plan, since it can be used to bind together various different mediums such as video and product branding.

There are three main types of logo. The one that comes to mind first is the iconographic style of logo, which is also known as the 'symbolic logo'. These use pure imagery to get the job done. They are quite tough to create, as you can imagine, since summing up a whole company in an image may or may not be easy depending on how focused its business is. A way round that problem is to use a typographic logos for their company logo then use a more iconic logo for the brands - eg Microsoft / Windows.

Typographical logos are also known as wordmark logos, and are very popular due to their power. Wordmarks are basically words but highly stylized so as to represent the character of the company. Think of Disney's typographical logo and compare it to Dell. These work well because of the combination of the visual element - the shape and style of the letters - with the human capacity for word recognition. Well known examples are Google and Dell.

The final flavor of logo combines the strengths of both, by combining type and icon into one. It is known as a combination logo for that reason. Good examples of this type of logo are Pringles and Starbucks.

When thinking about the logo you'd like to create, the surroundings will always play a part on the ideas you come up with. A logo in the center of new York should be different from the logo if the company happened to be situated in a sleepy village somewhere.

The clientele that your company are targeting will also effect the look of your logo. Younger customers will want to see a more vibrant or bold logo than would an older group of customers. Children again have unique requirements, so any products geared towards them are going to use more exaggerated styles.

Next you must be sure to consider the role that color plays. Bright vibrant colors are invigorating. Warming colors will feel welcoming. Cool colors are great for calming along with muted and pastel shades. These elements will play a role as they combine in your logo.

Once you have a fair idea about what you want to see in your logo, next stage is to pass it over to the designer who can flesh out your ideas and make them a reality.
